Dale great Graham Smith will return to Spotland for the game against Tranmere Rovers as guest of the Dale Trust.
Smith joined Dale shortly after England had won the World Cup, and he proved to be a great acquisition for the Club as he went on to make 373 appearances for the Club between 1966 and 1973. He was part of that fantastic 1968-69 side that secured the Club’s first ever promotion along with the likes of Reg Jenkins and Dennis Butler.
He left the Club as the Club’s record appearance maker, and that was a record that stood for many years until we signed a certain Gary Jones. Coincidentally, Graham was at Vale Park last week for our 3-2 win against Port Vale. He will be attending today’s game with his wife Jean.
The Trust try and bring back former players each time they have a matchball sponsorship and previous guests have included David Cross, Steve Taylor, and Shaun Reid.
