Paul entertained diners prior to kick off speaking of his move from Huddersfield Town to replace Dave Sutton at Dale, who had been injured, with in his first three matches all victorious even scoring twice in a home game against Scarborough and celebrating his 600th appearance against Wrexham on the last day of the 1988/9 season before following Danny Bergara to Stockport County, where he became player/coach at the start of a lengthy career coaching, managing and scouting.
